1. Metal performance, traditional appearance: The panels are pressed into tile, shake or shingle profiles and finished with stone granules, so from the street the roof reads as a conventional material. The performance underneath is steel.

2. Class 4 impact and high wind ratings: Stone coated steel systems typically carry the top impact rating and wind ratings well above 120 miles per hour. For the hail and storm corridors of North and Central Texas, that combination is hard to beat.

3. Remarkably light: At roughly a pound and a half per square foot, it is among the lightest roofing systems available, around a tenth the weight of concrete tile. It installs over standard framing and is often approved for installation over an existing roof.

4. Forty to seventy years of service: The steel is coated for corrosion resistance and the stone surface shields it from ultraviolet exposure, giving service lives that comfortably exceed any asphalt product.

5. Quiet and glare-free: The stone granule surface breaks up rain noise and eliminates the reflective glare of bare metal panels, which addresses the two objections homeowners most often raise about metal roofs.

Our Stone Coated Steel Installation Process

These systems install on a batten framework rather than flat to the deck, which creates an air gap that does real thermal work. Getting that framework right is most of the job.

1. Assessment and system selection: We confirm the roof geometry and pitch, and select the profile and manufacturer that suit your elevation. We also determine whether an overlay is appropriate or whether the existing roof should come off.

2. Deck preparation or overlay assessment: Where we tear off, we inspect and repair the decking. Where an overlay is sound and permitted, the batten system installs over the existing roof, which saves both disposal cost and time.

3. Underlayment: High-temperature synthetic underlayment goes down across the field with self-adhered membrane in the valleys and around penetrations.

4. Batten framework: The horizontal batten grid is installed to the manufacturer’s spacing. This is what gives the panels their fixing and creates the ventilated air gap beneath the roof surface.

5. Panel installation: Panels are set and fixed to the battens, interlocking with each other as they go. The concealed fixing means there are no exposed fasteners on the finished roof to work loose or leak.

6. Trim, ridge and inspection: Matching hip, ridge, valley and rake trim finishes the system. We inspect the completed roof, clear the site, and register the manufacturer warranty.
